Office centre and shopping space, Mladost I region, Sofia, 2009-2010

The project location is in one of the modernist residential districts of Sofia, built in 1970s. The high-rise building consists of a 20 floors’ office space tower, installed on top of a prismatic platform with shopping space on the ground floor and a semi-subterrain level. The tower is located on Tzarigradsko Shose Blvd and would be visible as a local compositional dominant from a large distance along the East Sofia high way. The building articulation is aimed at giving each floor its own individuality and its facade presence within the whole: the horizontal strips of ventilated Eternit facade board are varying in height from floor to floor. Thus the whole expression of the vertical prism converts the building into a sort of volumetric “barcode”, underlying its commercial nature. The vertical communication, staircase and lifts, are blocked in a separate perforated volume alongside.
