CONAP
Housing block with shops and cafeteria, Bulgaria Blvd, Sofia, 2006-2007
A Greek investor had “enlightening” intentions to bring the European sense of living to the Sofia housing culture. Thus the apartments in this building are addressed to sophisticated buyers and propose a wide variety of apartment sizes and typologies: from 50 sq.m. studios, to 90 sq.m. two floor “maisonette” apartments, and up to 220 sq.m. penthouses on top of the building. Its60apartments share the principles of the free-plan spaces with relatively large living areas, without doors and separations. The maisonette two floor type of residences resemble the LeCorbusier Unite d’Abitration two floor scheme, but is developed towards a ”tetris like ” volumetric components scheme, which “click” to each other, allowing the serving corridors to be at each second floor only, thus improving the density of the used space. The high-class apartments are on the upper floors and are configured as duplex spaces with bedrooms at the upper floor and large space living rooms with open stairs to galleries above. The shopping spaces at the ground floor are installed on both sides of an open passage linking the front and the courtyard spaces of the plot. Volumetric window to the boulevard allows an additional bow window of additional space, that can be used as for recreation, observation, or space to sleep at the facade above the street side walk. Two sub terrain floors provide space for about 60 cars.
