Apartment residence settlement in Markt Piesting, Vienna, Austria

An apartment residence group based on a historic brewery industrial complex in the outer periphery of Vienna is to be converted into a settlement district, 35 km. to Vienna. The brief is to master plan and develop 140 apartments with high level servicing facilities on the place of an old beer production facility in Markt Piesting. The new development is clustered around one building of the brewery listed as a culture monument, following the scale and volumetric principles of the traditional towns in Southern Austria. The apartments are designed in the range between 70 and 160 sq.m. and are composed in 3-4 storey residential units (blocks). The blocks are configured in districts, and the districts are surrounding the central “town place” and the old monumental 5 floor building, converted into a hotel and restaurant. The district closest to the road and the Markt Piesting town is formatted as a traditional brick wall structure, while the other ones are placed as abstract cubic clusters. The other servicing facilities of the settlement include: public municipal hall, rehabilitation and sports centre, shopping spaces and cafeteria, as well as a semi covered underground parking for 220 cars.
