PARTHENONAS

Paliampelo, Parthenonas village, Municipality of Sithonia, Chalkidiki, Greece

This project is about the building of four country houses in an area called “Paliampelo”, located at the edge of the traditional village of Parthenonas, near N. Marmaras, Municipality of Sithonia, Chalkidiki. It is located around 5 km outside the Neos Marmaras and is around 320 meters above sea level. The village Parthenonas is referred to in several historical readings beginning from the 10th century a.d. The buildings have a distance of seven meters between them and are grounded in a greatly sloping terrain. The maximum building height permitted is 7 m. The plans of each building are identical but are adapted to the terrain and communication conditions. They are bases on a central staircase vertical and disposition of areas at each half-floor as to construct an economic and compact space use. The living areas thus have a height of 1.5 floor, while the bedrooms are 1 floor height. The traditional wooden roofs with Byzantine roof tiles, as well as stone from Lakkoma as a facade covering material are obligatory according to the local codes of the local Monuments of Culture agency. The balconies (chagiati) are roof-protected and are enrolled with iron vertical grid parapets.
This way the buildings succeed to fit the rest of the environment as well as the traditional village of
Parthenonas.
