SOZO

Seaside hotel and holiday apartments building in Sozopol, Bulgaria, finished 2025

The project, TFA 4500 sq.m. with 33 hotel and apartment units, is placed on a vibrant place above rocks in the central bay of the town of Sozopol. The building’s elegant curve faces the historic centre of the settlement, initiated as an Ancient Greek colony in the 4th century BC, and famous for its medieval churches and houses. The single volume brings together two programs: a set of holiday apartments of the Bulgarian Union of Film Makers, and a modest hotel with 22 rooms and two penthouse apartments at the roof level. Due to this duality of uses the building has two stairs to serve its 6 floors’ body, both accessible from the street level. The building volume is placed on top of a basement at the ground and subterranean floors, containing shops, cafeteria, restaurants and lobby. The ground floor was made glassy and transparent, as not to block to the passers by the visibility of the sea bay and the opposite side of the historic town. The facades were originally clad with horizontal wooden battens, creating a pattern, that follows the local traditional sea-coast wooden houses wall treatment. Later for economy reasons, the client has insisted to shift the cladding to white plaster.

The building TFA is 4300 sqm.
