WEST HORIZON

Diffused Club Hotel Settlement in the area of Tzikidi, Aegina, Athens, Greece

The village structure is following the logic of the traditional village with a central spine cord street, running along the main hill ridge, from E to W with some 17% grades inclination. The settlement is organised among three public services groups: Northern (Entrance) Place, the Wellness (Southern) Core and the Principal (Western) Plaza. This street links these principal points of the village: The Northern Place, containing the Reception space, small lobby with cafeteria, and the Wellness (Southern) Core with the Thalassotherapy Units, are linked by the principle NE road with parking lots serving the settlement, which run along the geodesic horizontals. From this road a pedestrian boulevard springs out to the West towards the Western Plaza at its end, formed by a conference room, with a lobby bar, traditional goods shop, and restaurant, at one of the sides, and a traditional tavern, at the other.

The residence units are clustered into three sub-village compounds (“mahalas”) that are subordinated to the terrain structure of the main ridge and are placed as “cluster belts”. These belts: Belt 1 Belt 2, Belt 3, are disposed in a perpendicular way to the street, consequently at a distance to each other, so as to allow the visibility of each towards the sea horizon and the islands.

Since the Belt clusters are planned as two-level structures, perpendicular to the main street, they jump over the street space in the points of crossing it, thus producing a sort of bridges over the street, giving it shadow places and visual frames to the sea views. Along with these belts and serving their communication connectivity, there are branches of sub-streets, running horizontally with the terrain.
